Job Description

The DesCartes Programme (Work Package 7) is seeking a Research Fellow in Communication to examine public perceptions, expectations, and communication of AI systems.

The DesCartes programme, a collaboration between Nanyang Technological University and CNRS@CREATE, aims to develop a hybrid AI system with good properties such as the need for less resources and data, security, robustness, fairness, respect for privacy, and ethics. The system will be demonstrated on industrial applications of the smart city, including digital energy, monitoring of structures, and air traffic control.

This position is an opportunity to work with 80 permanent researchers from France and Singapore, supported by major industrial groups such as Thales SG, EDF SG, ESI group, CETIM Matcor, and ARIA. The research will mainly take place in Singapore at NTU’s Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and CNRS@CREATE. Successful candidates can expect a competitive salary and generous funding for missions.

Work Package 7 focuses on the integration of AI systems into societies, considering diverse cultures, values, and environments. It also addresses social and legal concerns regarding fairness and privacy in AI technology design. The goal is to develop comprehensive and human-centered frameworks and guidelines that ensure positive societal and cultural impact. The research from WP7 will provide recommendations for effective communication and collaboration about AI systems, aiming to increase AI literacy.
